GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

This week’s TED talk is about Claudette Colvin, sometimes referred to as the other Rosa Parks. Colvin was a pioneer of the 1950s civil rights movement and retired nurse aide. On March 2, 1955, she was arrested at the age of 15 in Montgomery, Alabama, for refusing to give up her seat to a white woman on a crowded, segregated bus.  Join us in the media center on Tuesday, February 23 to learn more about Colvin and other interesting civil rights activists. Reminder: Since students are all back to school at 100% capacity, TED Talks will only be held on Tuesdays; please sign up in advance to ensure your place.

This week is National FFA Week! This is a week of celebration for the Edgewood FFA Chapter, but there are also some ways for the whole school to celebrate too! Questions? Contact Mrs. Ferguson @ tferguson@rbbschools.net.
Schoolwide Dress-up Days
Monday – Hat Day! Pay $1 to your first period teacher and you can wear your favorite hat all day! Proceeds will go to Ian Slabaugh, an EHS 9th grader who has been battling cancer, and his family. Ian’s older sister, Neely, was one of the founding Edgewood FFA Chapter members.
Tuesday – America Day – Wear red, white and blue!
Thursday – FFA Day – Wear blue and gold, or an FFA t shirt if you have one. There will also be a food drive this day; bring any canned food to Mrs. Ferguson’s room! All food will be donated to Pantry 279.
Friday – Farmer/Flannel Friday – Wear flannel or farmer gear.

Students, there is still time to order a 2020-2021 yearbook at jostensyearbooks.com.

Students who have Chromebook issues should email RBB tech support at itsupport@rbbschools.net.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Edgewood High School senior, April Strawn, was recently featured in Bloom Magazine for illustrating Michael Koryta’s (pen name Scott Carson) latest novel, The Chill. April was just 16 years old when she collaborated with the author, adjusted her work based on feedback, and met publishing deadlines. Her efforts produced the results Koryta was striving for – visually depicting the point-of-view of an eight-year-old character. If you want to see some of April’s designs, go to instagram.com/tia_drawgon. Also, check-out the supernatural, terrifying thriller, The Chill, in the EHS library.

Any boy interested in playing golf this spring needs to see Mr. Lee to sign up or email him at glee@rbbschools.net.

It’s not too late to join the Lacrosse Team! No prior knowledge of the sport is necessary. Come check out a new sport! Contact Coach Mary (mellis@rbbschools.net) with any questions or concerns.  Or text “@edgewoodla” to 81010 to join the Remind Text Group.

Update:  The parent/player meeting scheduled for students interested in playing baseball has been changed to a Zoom meeting for Tuesday, February 23. The Zoom will be sent by Remind to all players. Any player who needs to be added to the Remind app should email assistant coach Sam Jones with contact information. Baseball workouts are every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Students, if you are interested in being a part of the 2021 Unified Track Team, please fill out this Google Form. Students who fill out the form will be sent an invitation to the informational Zoom meeting. Unified Track is a joint, special education and general education track team. Participants will compete alongside their classmates and those who are a part of the sectional roster will receive a varsity letter. For more information, stop by Mr. Tucker’s room, E134.
